All men make mistakes...

... but only wise men learn from their mistakes. (Winston Churchill). I'm currently reading 'Churchill, a study in Greatness' by Geoffrey Best. Churchill's strength in leadership and achievement must surely come from his determination to 'get it right' and the key to that was feeling safe to make mistakes, hence his quote making reference to wise men. Churchill met with Viscount Montgomery days before the D-Day landings with major concerns about the plans. Montgomery, respectfully challenged Churchill's perspective and in an instant Churchill backed down, seeing the wisdom in Montgomery's battle plans. That's humility. He saw he was mistaken and was happy to surrender his ideas to another.
