Jordon did his Homework

Football fever reached a climax earlier this week with a dramatic penalty save for England. In the post match interview, goal keeper Jordan Pickford explained how he'd done his research on each of the Colombian players and it was only Radamel Falcao who swayed from his usual placement. Controversially, I've never been a great advocate for homework. The main thrust of my argument is that if we want students to focus and perform their best at school, we should give them time off to rest, relax and be with family during the evenings and weekends. After all (apart from us teachers), how many workers, with 9 to 5 jobs, go home and do more work in the evening and at weekends? That aside, I do admire Jordon's commitment to his 'job'. I am great believer in research and as we teach our children to achieve, we need to encourage every level of independent learning / development (i.e. skills for life). So boys and girls: do your research !
