Those that know me will know my granddaughter too (I'm always talking about her) and in particular, her love for lego. Apart from being a great outlet for the imagination, Lego is one way of engaging mathematics: quantities, design, dimensions, symmetry, patterns, planning, problem solving - the list goes on. Watching the first episode of Lego Masters (Channel 4), I was particularly impressed with a young duo, Abraham and Guy (the one in the picture). Both, aged 9, are pitted against university students and other adults and to say the least, they are impressive. I had to pause the TV when they were showing their blue print for their chair design. It had so much detail, with dimensions clearly shown and explained. These two are a testimony to what young children can achieve. Let us not limit what our young people can do and look for ways to encourage entrepreneurialism such as this.
