Aged 11 and already great Mathematicians

My last post, back in April, was almost prophetic. I knew my students would do well in their SATs exams simply because they were good mathematicians. I was already congratulating them on their success before they had put pen to paper. Well they didn't disappoint: between the 26 children, they scored an average of 92%. On top of that, I gave them a GCSE maths paper and their average score was 71% (a C grade equating to 72%). Simply put, young minds can rise to any challenge. A couple of years ago, I started teaching two of my year 6 pupils A-level maths and they got it straight away! Moral of the story? Teach concepts, teach problem solving, teach mathematics, but don't teach to the test.
